Epicenter Located Near Lamont, Kern County
Numerous Aftershocks Felt
A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck near the town of Lamont, California, on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at 9:09 PM. The epicenter of the quake was approximately 15 miles southwest of Lamont in Kern County.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake was followed by numerous aftershocks, some of which were also felt throughout the region.
The earthquake was felt as far away as Los Angeles County, approximately 80 miles to the south. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, but residents were advised to be prepared for possible aftershocks.
The 5.2 magnitude earthquake is the largest to hit the Bakersfield area since an 18-inch earthquake struck Frazier Park, California, in July 2019.
