Earthquakes Swarm Southern California
Monday’s 4.1-Magnitude Quake and Aftershocks
A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck California's Central Valley early Monday, bringing with it what turned out to be a barrage of at least 38 aftershocks, the strongest of which was recorded at magnitude 3.5. The initial temblor occurred around 6:08 a.m. about 22 miles from Bakersfield, and was felt as far north as Fresno and as far south as Los Angeles.
Tuesday’s 5.3-Magnitude Quake
A larger earthquake, this one a magnitude 5.3, struck Southern California Tuesday evening. The temblor was centered about 185 miles southwest of Bakersfield and was felt across much of the region, including the greater Los Angeles area. No damage or injuries were reported from either quake.
